Gender Piles
The late Clarabelle Smith-Hablen's work is opening
for a limited engagement at the prestigious York.
Since much of her work is owned by billionaires the
public rarely gets to experience the art produced
by the best known practiser of exhibitionist
representationalism. Tickets go on sale tonight at
$ 500.
Clarabelle Smith had known controversy much of
her life. Her visa to the Corporate United States
was nearly revoked over charges of corrupting a
minor until with the Pope's blessing she married
her twelve-year old boyfriend at Libertarian
University.
Known as a strong-willed woman, when Clarabelle
and her artist-husband were having trouble paying
their rent she turned down a first offer for her
work at thirteen million dollars. "Darling," she was
quoted as saying, "Do I seem like just a hooker to
you? I will not take a penny less than
twenty-million." The story has been told many
times, sometimes with the phrase, "Let them eat
cake," thrown in.
Her daughter Gretchen Stephani told reporters,
and art critics, that her mother was a woman of
brutal strength and ability, while her father, a
gentler person was a crazy-fool. Gretchen
Staphani, the executive director of her mother's
extensive estate is married to the Psychiatrist
James Howard.
